SCOUTING REPORT: Houston Wilson is a college prospect in the making! He will graduate in June 2015 and still has two full seasons to play baseball in high school at Xavier College Prep in Palm Desert, CA. where he is a starting right-handed pitcher and third baseman. He throws a fastball at 80mph and also features a curve and change with great location on all his pitches. At 6”1” and 205 he is a physical presence on the mound as well as at the plate. He is also a true student athlete carrying a 4.24 GPA. He plans to attend a college where he can both play the game he loves and earn his undergraduate degree in pre-law or business. As a freshman he played on both the Freshman and JV teams for Palm Desert High School. He was named PDHS Freshman MVP for the year and JV Player of the Week. On JV he batted .333 and fielded at .946 while pitching with a 2.67 ERA. He transferred to Xavier mid-season and as he Junior his stats were 276 BA, .353 OBP, .310 SLG, 1 2B, 1 HR, 3 R, 4 RBI while playing about half the season. Xavier Coach, Clint Cleland, a former DI Player, Pro Player with the Padres organization, and current scout for the St Louis Cardinals recognizes talent when he sees it and said “Houston will be a solid DI recruit if he continues to improve at the rate he has. He is a very physical kid and very bright with great academics and determination. As he continues to develop physically and gains arm speed he profiles out to be a very effective starting pitcher at the next level.” Coach Cleland rates Houston in all the important categories like attitude, character, coachability, physical ability, mental makeup and work ethic as Excellent. He was thrilled to have Houston transfer into his program for the coming year at Xavier after waiting for him to choose from several programs in the Coachella Valley who wanted him for their team. Houston is taking the recruiting process very seriously and understands it is a process. He works out daily and has already attended several showcase events including one on 12/9/12 at Long Beach State and continues to play on travel teams so that he is playing year around. This summer he is playing with Desert Prospects with Patrick Evans.

You need to take a good look at this young man and put him on your recruiting board for Fall 2015. He will be a real asset to the school that recruits him.
